Rumor: Microsoft Surface 2 To Follow Similar Pricing As Its Predecessor, Starting At $499

Microsoft is trying its best to get rid of the remaining Surface inventory by offering trade-in programs that offers at least $200 for used iPads as well as price reductions for their Surface and Surface Pro tablets. One of the major reasons was the high price tag of the tablet. Last year, the company had to write off a $900 million from its accounts.

Rumors suggest that Microsoft is working on a sequel of Surface tablets and is also expected to host an event on September 23 where the company will unveil new Surface tablets. According to a new report, Microsoft is expected to follow the same pricing strategy for Microsoft Surface 2 as the previous tablet, which might bring similar results for the new tablet.

The near-to-accurate Mary Jo Foley reports that Microsoft is sticking to its previous pricing plans with Microsoft Surface 2 starting from $499 for the 32GB version while the 64GB version will cost $599. Foley also mentioned that Surface Pro 2 will start from $899 for the 64GB version with 128GB, 264GB and 512GB models available at $999, $1,299 and $1,699, respectively. The touch covers are still going to be priced separately, and not the part of the above pricing plan.

Let’s just take this rumor with a grain of salt, as Foley mentions that all this information comes from a single source. So, let’s just wait for September 23rd where Microsoft is expected to take the wraps of the new Surface tablets.
