After announcing their new Valve Steam Machine at the end of September Valve has this week announced specifications for their new Steam Machine taking the wraps off the hardware they have included under the cover.
The new Valve Steam Machine systems will be sent out to 300 prototype beta testers over the next few weeks to be put through its paces.
Valve has revealed that their new Steam Machine will be fitted with a either a Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, or i3 processor for testers to enjoy together with graphics provided by NVIDIA Titan, GTX780, GTX760, and GTX660 to mix up the specifications even more.
As Valve stated back at the Steam Machines announcement there are going to be a range of different consoles to suit a range of gamers requirements as “Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world” said Valve.
Other features that will be included in the new Steam Machine will be 6GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU) of memory together with 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD storage as well as an internal 450w 80Plus Gold power supply. The Steam Machine box will measure 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 inches in size and Valve’s Greg Coomer wrote on the Steam Community website :
“Valve didn’t set out to create our own prototype hardware just for the sake of going it alone – we wanted to accomplish some specific design goals that in the past others weren’t yet tackling.
One of them was to combine high-end power with a living-room-friendly form factor. Another was to help us test living-room scenarios on a box that’s as open as possible.
So for our own first prototype Steam Machine (the one we’re shipping to 300 Steam users), we’ve chosen to build something special. The prototype machine is a high-end, high-performance box, built out of off-the-shelf PC parts.”
