Google starts selling HBO shows through US Play store

Fans of HBO shows like True Blood and Game of Thrones will be pleased with this news. HBO has started to offer some of its popular television shows as downloads through Google Play. HBO has added its programming to Google’s online store in a similar way to how it offers them on iTunes. Right now it looks like only those in the United States will be able to purchase episodes however.

The price of episodes range from $2 to $3 per or up to $4 in HD, with entire seasons costing between $19 and $29 each. The first shows that you can purchase include Veep, True Blood, Game of Thrones, and Boardwalk Empire. Google says that more series, films, and documentaries will be added over the next few months. So it looks like a good time to catch up on these shows or check them out if you haven’t seen them.
Aside from show downloads, HBO’s programming can be found through its HBO GO app. Right now it only offers access to streaming via the app to subscribers of qualifying cable packages, but HBO is still exploring the possibility of offering the use of the app to broadband customers, adding an extra charge to the bill from the Internet service provider.
