Nintendo UK using Tesco to raise Wii U awareness

The Nintendo Wii U is not selling very well. In order to remedy that, Nintendo will be attempting to create more awareness of their console by partnering with UK retailer, Tesco.

This news comes from Nintendo UK’s marketing director, Shelly Pearce, who spoke with the folks over at MCV. They will purchase in-store space to raise awareness of the Wii U console and some of its features and capabilities. There is also a five-page flier that will be sent to about 300,000 Tesco customers who have previously purchased a Nintendo Wii.
Yes, this does seem desperate. Oh yeah, there will also be coupons for certain games. Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess. Pearce says, “There was a big misconception at launch about what Wii U is [...] And one of the big messages is that this is a new console and a new controller.” Yes, people know. They just don’t want one. They would rather have a PS4 or an Xbox One.
