HTC America Laid Off Almost 20 Percent of its Workforce

A new report from The Verge claims that HTC has laid off about 20 percent of its work force from its America division earlier this week. The American division has a workforce of 150 employees, but the Verge is saying that the company may have laid off about 30 employees, which amounts to almost 20 percent of the workforce. The company confirmed about the layoffs, but didn’t comment any further about the number of employees who lost their job.

In the statement sent to The Verge, the company said that it “reduction in force” was a “decisive decision to streamline and optimize our organization and improve efficiencies after several years of aggressive growth.”
The Verge also managed to get hold of the letter from the President of HTC America, Jason Mckenzie. He told his team that it is “the most difficult day of my HTC career” and that “the stark reality is that our business results are not where we want them to be.” Mckenzie said the layoff were “”part of a broader plan to simplify our organization, sharpen our teams focus, improve our speed in decision-making, and drive greater empowerment through our team, while reducing our overall cost structure.”
HTC One has been praised by many technology enthusiasts, but it seems as if the device failed get the sales number the company expected it would get. But, I still think that it is one of the best Android devices available in the market.
